Our bodies have a huge impact on our performance. That's why we need to pay attention to our whole selves, not just the mind and our reasoning, in our daily activities, whether it´s at work, at home or doing sports. What am I capable of doing? How do I show up? What's my impact on other people? And how does that affect my results? Our body and shape have a great impact on our possibilities. Its not enough to be smart and have great ideas. What does your presence produce? Your presence is your body. How do people react to you? Do you have a compelling presence that others want to be with or follow? Do people listen when you speak? Do you inspire trust? We are not conscious of that our body and nervous system constantly scan other peoples´ nervous systems for safety. Just like their does with ours. Can I trust this person? Does this person feel authentic? We pick up on if someone is congruent or not: do their words, emotion and shape feel coherent? In the case you want to work on your presence, the good news is: presence is a learned skill! What are you capable of doing? Performance is the outcome of who we are, not just what we think. Do you know what you need to do but just can't do it? Do you want to say "no" but the words don't come out? Do you tell yourself you need to be relaxed when making presentations, but your body tenses up no matter what you tell yourself? Do you want to terminate a relationship but can't get yourself to do it? The good news is we can learnt to manage ourselves and learn new skills. We can build a self that produces the outcome we want, through a transformational process. So how do we do that? 1. Become aware of yourself. Remember: awareness brings choice! 2. Understand you history - what shaped you? Why are you who you are? How has your shape served you and how does it not serve you now? 3. Set up new practices - practice who you want to be. We are what we practice. We practice all the time. We practice how we sit and walk. We have a presence all the time! What kind of presence are you practicing? Will what you practice move you forward? Or are you practicing the wrong thing? Pay attention to your body. That's where the power is.
